Just notice, right this minute. What comes up?
Tired – Cheerful – Rushed – Alert – Sad – Tense – Achy – Joyful – Bored – Nothing in particular?
See if a word or a feeling pops up when you ask the question. If not, don’t worry.
Notice if your feeling is a physical or an emotional one. If it’s physical “my hip hurts” or “my eyes are tired” or “I feel exhilarated after my run” – notice if there’s an emotion that sort of goes along with it – ‘sorry for myself’, or ‘pressured’, or ‘calm’, or ‘happy’. Just notice the answer without judging.
If the feeling you identified was an emotional one, notice where you feel it in your body. Do you feel sad in your chest, or your stomach? Alive and happy in your skin? Again, see what comes up without judging.
Take a moment and just say yes to the feeling – “yes, that is what I’m feeling right now”. It might change, it might have its causes and its consequences, but right now, this feeling is true for me.
And notice what effect this little exercise has had – on your breathing, your posture, your sense of where you are in your day.
It’s small but powerful.
